Yoga for Older People

You are never too old to do yoga!  The accepted view of the aging process has been one of stiffening, rigidity and closing down.  Without proper exercise, the body contracts and we lose height, strength and flexibility.

Yoga exercises reverse the aging process by moving each joint in the body through its full range of motion – stretching, strengthening and balancing each part.

Yoga, through the postures, breathing and relaxation techniques can help with insomnia, loss of strength as a result of arthritis, high blood pressure and breathing problems.

The purpose of the yoga postures, is to adjust and align your body to bring back its natural balance, by freeing the habitual blocks and tensions acquired over the years.  The postures have to be learned slowing so that this can happen gently.

It does not matter what age you are or what your state of health is; you can start yoga at any time and practise gentle stretching exercises, relaxation and breathing, even if you are chair-bound.
